Nigella Lawsons 'How to Be a Domestic Goddess: Baking and the Art of Comfort Cooking' has got to be the best cookery book I have ever bought. To me Nigella isn't a chef, she's a cook and there's a big difference. Cooks don't have time to swan around spending six hours on source to go with the half a potato and slice of pork neatly piled in the exact middle of the plate, they want quick, delicious food that anyone can make and that wont go horribly wrong if you're missing one of the flavourings. That's what's so great about this book, you can experiment with the recipes, tweak them till you think they're perfect but still be able to bake a complete batch of muffins on a rainy Tuesday morning before you drop the kids off at school and get to work yourself - highly, highly recommended.

I love baking but detest the (in my mind) poncey cookbooks with ingredients that I will have to buy in bulk amount and then never use again. This book sounds ideal to me as I often don't have the exact ingredients!
