Bokken: Art of the Japanese Sword by Dave Lowry and Mike Lee is a quality read and stays faithful to the Japanese way of fighting. The book focuses on Kirihaku which means that one should "Cut Away at the Impurities' of oneself. If you take this approach then this book becomes of great assistance to beginners who are learning the noble art. The book also has great visuals to help you understand the techniques the book is teaching. I can't rate this book highly enough - 11 out of 10!
