Sharp GX1

“The sharp gx10 is that famous flip phone from...”

Good Points
Excellent Sturdy built, not easily scratched like the GX10. Large Colour Screen, Built in Camera with novel Mirror feature, Excellent Wap browser, Nice clear sound, Clear Graphics, Good Games

Bad Points
A bit long, Navigation can be tricky.

General Comments
The sharp gx10 is that famous flip phone from Vodafone, being heavily advertised by the company around the world. However, Europeans attention is being brought to the Sharp GX10's brother, the Sharp GX1, which is infact newer than the GX10.
GX1 vrs GX10
There is very little difference in the phones, the GX1 is arguably superior in a number of ways than the GX10. The phones is definately more durable and sturdy and less easily scratched that the flimsier brother, the gx10. The gx10 however has full Java capibilites. I simply prefer the GX1 to its older brother.
Features
Despite a great set of features including highly customisable software, the phone lacks a super good navigation, opting for simple but clear scrollable graphics for navigation. A hierarchical system follows which can be confusing.
Reception
Since the Sharp GX1 is EXCLUSIVE to 02 its probobly an idea to check your area before you purchase the phone. My area has never slipped bellow full reception, and I always get a great sound. Another feature of the Sharp GX1 that is superior than the GX10 has to be the absence of the GX10's Petruding arial. There is no external arial in the GX1
Style
With sleek, sturdy curves, a large screen and a chrome like finish, the sharps style is superior to almost any phone ive seen yet, it is not chunky like the Orange SUV or the Nokia 7650, instead it is a long, slender phone. A tough wearing durable exterior with a tiny little stylish O2 logo also gives it the edge over the GX10 which has Vodafone logos plastered on it everywhere. There is no arial on the phone as mentioned in the reception area, and there is smooth metallic surfaces and non rubbery buttons.
If you use this phone then return to an older Nokia, you can really tell the difference in screen size!
Value For Money
I got this phone on a current {At time of press} deal at o2 which meant it cost me only £79.99 on Contract phone at 20 Pounds a month for pretty much anything anyone ever needs ever! Well chuffed with this price tag, however theres a snag, pay as you go users will have to dish out £299.00!
Standby Time
200 hours
Talk Time
270 mins
Overall:
The sharp gx1 Phone is by far the most superior piece of mobile technology I've ever used, the navigation system is easily dwarfed by the navigation used in the rival cameraphones, however, with regular updates to this navigation software, the phone is a sure bet to go!
A good quality camera. Makes the samsung t100 look like yesteryears news, And comes with an instant "Popularity Guarantee!"

This is a great review, i was thinking getting a gx1 because of it's big screen and in built camera , but it is £299.95 in my argos catalogue and where i live which is in kent , but now i have seen loads of the gx1 phones for about £140 which i am going to buy, also i know how to transfer pictures from it to a pc as a mate told me as he use to have it on pay monthly but he couldn't afford it any more. if you want to know where to get the phone for £140 email me and i'll send you the details. p.s. it is a auction site with a buy it now option. Regards James

I bought the GX1 this weekend after doing some research and wanting certain features. The GX1 was free on the pay monthly tariff I went with and I think when you compare that with £99 for the ugly Nokia 7650. (I went in the O2 shop today three days after buying it and it is now £49.99.
Think I got an excellent deal there. SO be warned shop around before committing.
Reception is great, find the phone easy to use if sometimes a bit longwinded to get round but hey the price you pay for a great phone. Battery life could be better but it is powering a top phone!!!
Buy one and see for yourself

Are there going to be software updates? Any plans for a data cable to link the phone to a pc? Whats this gprs space that O2 have offered?

These comments have removed any doubt I may have had. I was very unsure as to which model to go with, as assistance from sales staff, no matter how helpful, in my mind, can appear to be ambigious. Well done - I am decided!!!
