General Comments

The E700 is a clamshell flip-phone from Samsung that integrates a high quality VGA camera and a colour screen. The polyphonic ring tones are exceptionally clear and the display is crisp and bright. The small screen on the front of the phone acts as a monitor that displays the time and also who is calling you when the lid is closed, and also cleverly doubles up as a 'colour' (i.e. 5 shades of brown) self shoot camera viewfinder.

The layout of the keypad is intuitive and the menus are clearly presented and well designed. However, for all its good points, there is a major flaw with the E700 that all prospective buyers should heed: After around a year of moderate use, the ribbon cable that connects the screen to the processor through the 'hinge' WILL become worn out and cause the screen to slowly increase in contrast until eventually the screen is totally white.

The process usually starts when you realise you can no longer use the camera (an error message pops up every time you try to use it). Ignored, this will worsen until you can no longer use the phone. Samsung will repair it if you are under warranty and are 'aware of the problem,' but if you are out of warranty or have had your E700 unlocked, it's time to buy a new phone. Preferably not a Samsung model.
