Rick Gallop, Living the GI Diet - This is one of a range of new diets designed to be easy to follow and maintain in the long term. The premise is that you can use this diet to reduce your intake of unhealthy sugars and refined carbohydrates by replacing them with healthier alternatives. Each food is assigned a rating on the Glycemic Index, which means that it tells you how quickly your body absorbs and processes it. Sugars are absorbed quickly so when you eat sugary foods or white bread, pasta, etc., you feel full quickly but hungry again rather quickly. The idea is to eat foods that digest more slowly so you feel full for longer and don't need to eat as much (plus it's healthier overall).
On this diet you get told what foods you can eat as much of as you want and what you need to limit and what portion sizes should be. It's easy to follow, you don't feel hungry all the time and as a result, easy to manage long term. Highly recommended!
