Good Points

Weather was exceptionally good, the hotel spacious clean and with going in January wasn't overcrowded. Hotel food was of good quality and variety though anyone looking for healthy food would suffer!

Bad Points

Bumsters are still around and you are constantly hussled to buy or give money.

General Comments

We stayed for 1 week at Palm Grove Hotel could have stayed longer. We found it hard to find cheap food, the tourist taxis outside cost £5 return to Banjul to eat out and you get hassled constantly so need to take a guide with you that cost 50D an hour (£1). To stay in the hotel and eat will cost you around £5 for burger and chips at lunchtime to £8 for the buffet evening meal. The drinks are expensive too but there is a hut in the taxi rank that sells bottles of pop for 15D (30p) and large bottled water 30D (60p). The hotel shop was barely open and not well stocked. There is one local pub/restaurant next door; the prison bar over the road has closed now. So anywhere else you need to get into a taxi. Local taxis are a lot cheaper but hard to get, we didn't get one once. Other than that we had a great time, friendly staff (all on the make and willing to do anything for you for 25-50D), the pool was great, canoes free and available and there was evening entertainment on. We did a trip through the rep but felt ripped off, was cheaper to hire a guide at the gates and get in the taxi to see the real Gambia. We spent a fortune as we were constantly asked for donations and as we ate in the hotel on our days by the pool it got expensive. You can't just nip out when your here, it's a very isolated hotel.
