Good Points

Weight loss is quick at first which helps with motivation. Great if you find it difficult to regulate your blood sugar levels


Bad Points

One slip can mean pounds sneek back on quickly and eating out or with freinds can be difficult - people may not understand why you don't want bread or pasta with a meal


General Comments

Atkins Diet - Considering that after the induction phase you'll find you have reduced sugar cravings and very rarely feel hungry it's a diet - or way of life that must be tried. I used to feel tired or sick if i didn't eat/snack regularly throughout the day, on Atkins I have to force myself to eat just to make sure I have.

I'd say you have to read the book for you to understand the science behind the diet or you are setting yourself up for failure. Going against everything we've ever been taught about a healthy diet can take some convincing, if you don't know the full details about how Atkins works it can be all too easy to fall off the wagon in the first few days especially when you feel you have no energy at all and have a headache! The book also gives you hints and tips on the hidden carbs in our food - I always use mine as a reference every now and again, even after a year and a half of Atkins.

The fact it's a lifetime choice can be daunting but I've come off Atkins twice now and always felt awful and bloated within a week. While I think I miss chocolate and chips I actually dont! Getting back to Atkins is always a relief.

As for the 'low carb' options - I haven't found a thing that actually tastes good (they all tend to taste like cardboard) and is worth the inflated prices they charge. The producers of these products are counting on the fact that we tend to think 'diet' food has to taste bad - well it doesn't. Low carb without these just takes a little imagination.

    I have been doing Atkins for ayear and a half now and notice I'm not groggy anymore, I have tons of energy and have lost a total of 80 lbs. I used to be 54" around the waist, now I'm down to 34". Used to wear size 22-24 in pants. Now I wear 12-14.have more weight to lose before I'm at my target weight.I also excercise now which I never felt like doing, now I can't hardly wait to excercise (weird but true) for me this hasn't been a diet but a change of lifestyle. I'll never go back to the way I was, and I find I don't even miss bread, pasta or potatoes. So anyone thinking about trying Atkins, you really should go for it. You won't be sorry or disappointed.
