Stunningly beautiful gentle giants
Coat can tangle and the cats are too big to argue with if they don't want to be groomed.
Maine Coon Cats: I have a 17lb cream silver tabby boy which I got when he was 12-weeks old and he is very loyal to me. He seems to try not to do anything bad, always using his scratching post (my Birman scratches furniture to get attention) and his litter tray, and he always comes when he is called. He sings the most unusual songs when he is playing, he likes having cuddles (cutting the circulation to my lower legs but it's worth it) and is very gentle. He is very strong and powerful but has never used this aggressively - occasionally cat posts can be sent flying when he leaps off them. For such a giant he is fairly timid and can be startled when the doorbell rings, and will often hide from strangers in the house and boisterous, infrequently visiting grandchildren. On one occassion a startled leap resulted in bruising in my son's chest, there wasn't a scratch though.
I also have a 13lb blue shaded silver tortie girl which I got when she was a year old. She greets cats and people with a chirrup although this greeting does not extend to our Pomeranian who she only meets occassionaly. She loves being stroked and doesn't mind being groomed, unlike my boy. She too is very good with scratching posts, trays, and turning up. She is not, however, as timid with strangers and is often eager to sample an unfamiliar tickle.
