General Comments

The familiar theme of alien invasion is treated in author Michael Kirshteyn's THE NEUTRINO EFFECT with refreshing optimism and a sure-handed style. Told from the point of view of a Russian Scientist entrepreneur named Vladimir Ustinov, the story takes place in a future some seventy years from now, in which the author speculates that peace among the nations may not be such an outrageous concept. Bold new pro-environmental policies and space exploration programs have helped to bring unanimity to the planet Earth, yet as we get deeper into the politics, we discover that much of this is simply business-as-usual, with many of the world's nations co-opted in a unilateral cooperate takeover spearheaded by the New American government bosses. Against this backdrop, the story unfolds with a quick pace that speeds the reader along through Ustinov's discovery of a powerful new transmission media, and his team's efforts to beam messages into space. This brings an advanced alien race called The World Builders upon us, and a new phase of human evolution is brought about, as we become students and pawns of the extra-terrestrials. The novel provides nonstop action and intrigue, with a major emphasis on character development and intergalactic conflict, introducing us to a wide assortment of alien scientists and warriors, while at the same time there is a force of realism that prevails within the fast style of the narrative. THE NEUTRINO EFFECT is an exciting, solid novel that promises an intriguing ongoing body of work from a major new talent in science fiction.
