General Comments

I have had the Dyson DC05 for several years now and it has mostly worked well. Just recently, it stopped dead, and after surfing on the web, I found that the cable breaks inside the winding mechanism which requires taking the cleaner apart. It seems very well made and rather difficult to manage. Anyway, after reading the review from the electrical engineer who said he did it, I took it as a challenge (I'm an electrical engineer too). To get it apart you need to do the following:

1. Remove the screw in the top. I found a hex key of around 3/32" did the job (long handle).
2. Remove the wheels. You need two flat blade screwdrivers to remove the center insert of each wheel and a lot of force.
3. Pulling the wheel back as much as possible and you should be able to see inside the wheel.
4. You should be able with a screwdriver to push the plastic prongs that keep the wheel on.
5. Pull the wheel off.
6. Do the same both side.
7. Hidden inside the wheel space are 2 more screws each side. Remove with hex key.
8. The cleaner should now come apart (thats a total of 5 screws to remove).

Good luck!

Getting inside my Dyson DC05 to effect repairs when it suddenly stopped was a tad mystifying but armed with this info I'm off to try again. Thanks. JB
