General Comments

i originally went out and bought the Dansai 955 but i wasn't happy with the picture - i found it to be blurry and the sound seemed to be dull through my Marantz sr6200 amplifier - so i took it back to Tesco's and went to Curry's and bought an LG DVD 5253 dvd player and i must say the picture and sound quality is a lot better than the Dansai. Even when i play my music cd's on it the sound is good. Currys are now selling them for £89 with 3 free dvd titles...and i have hacked it to become multiregion. So there you have it. Thats my opinon....

Can you let me know the hack codes to multiregion player. Does it play CDR, VCD & Mp3

This is about the only review of this player on the net. 'What Hifi' seem to like the player too - and as it's only 360mm wide, it will fit on top of the VCR. According to the LG site (www.lge.co.uk) it doesn't play VCD (but can be hacked to do so apparently), but it should handly CDR's and MP3's out of the box. Here's hoping I can find one in time for Christmas.

Top DVD player for the price!! Better than a lot of other cheap models plus if you have an LG tele(I do) you get a remote that works both and other funky features all in all can't go wrong for 89 quid. Top picture and performance

Having just bought a LG DVD Home Cinema system it is useful to get supporting views on the quality of video and audio. System purchased was DA-3520, with tuner, amp and dvd in one slim box, plus normal speakers. Price from Currys was £199.99 in Xmas sale. Useful to know how to make it multi-region. Advice please.

    This region hack works perfectly!

I've found the hack to have a colour problem with region 1 discs. I get a swap to b/w after inserting the region 1 disk, and the movie has all the colour mixed up (red seems to be blue etc) - but it plays ok as black and white - menu works, etc - any ideas? - the hack seems fine with region 2 disks, (default) - bought in uk LG5253 from curries Jan '03

What hack are you refering too..colour change? Where did you get this hack from?

  • Jamiejinx. on 11th Apr 2003

This colour problem could be because your Tv doesn't convert to NTSC rather than the normal PAL. Region 1 disks will generally all be NTSC. Try it on a newer TV and you'll see if thats the problem.

Good review. The only problem I find with mine is colour reception which I can't seem to find a way to change. My TV is new so that cna't be the problem but all the films I play through the DVD seem to have a distinct greenish tinge. Any helpful comments or instructions would be gratefully received.
