Good Points

Rifle looks very nice and is heavy enough for standing stability while shooting. I like the side lever action, seems that the scope and the barrel have more likelyhood of remaining in sinc.

Bad Points

I just got the rifle and set out to sight it in. The 2x7 44 scope (BSA)provides a good sight picture and I have had training as a member of the MS state rifle team. I supported the rifle with a makeshift rest but it's easy to know when the rifle is locked on the target at firing. I am disappointed with the accuracy so far, possible the pellets are at fault but the two types I bought with the rifle can attain only about 1" consistant grouping at 40 feet. I was hoping for less than half that. I will try some other pellets before giving all the credit to the rifle because it seems at least 1 of every three shots in a group gives the 1" spread.

General Comments

Possibly the pellets are to blame for the inaccuracy of RWS Model 54 .22 cal. The rifle groups a couple of shots tightly and then throws one off for no apparent reason. At 40 feet, benching the rifle, some groups are less than 1/2" ctc but often, one of the three strays to the 1" mark. The pellets do seem to have some distortion in the tail (14.5g superdome and 14.5g superpoint) and that would explain the problem. If I could get the rifle/pellet combination in spec, I am sure that I wouldn't mind the high cost of plinking. Anyone with knowledge of precision pellets let me know.

I didnt get good results either with any pointed pellet in my 54. Not much better out of Superdomes. Try Crossman premiers or JSB exacts. I am getting cloverleaf groups easily at 30 yards with this gun using those pellets. Also, if your gun isnt broken in, you will get some flyers due to deisleing of the gun. I was chronying my 54 when I first got it and most pellets chronied at about 800fps, but when it would deisle, it shot up as much as 1200 fps.

I've conducted extensive testing of over 30 different types of pellets. #1 is the JSB Diabolo Exact 5.52 producing a 5 shot group that looks like one pellet hole at 50 feet. #2 is the same pellet in 5.51 measuring .25" and #3 is the Crosman Premier @ .40" I use the Crosmans for plinking because they're cheaper and save the JSB's for longer stuff. I also found pulling a couple of dry patches through the barrel every 30-40 shots really helps with accuracy. Just so you know, some of the pellets I tested looked like shotgun patterns so this rifle is somewhat picky but once you find what it likes-watch out!
