General Comments
We stayed on Kuredu in December 2004 (just before the tsunami, although we understand that Kuredu was not affected).
Our experience was outstanding. The accomodation was comfortable and clean, the food excellent, the beaches pristine, the water clear and warm, the house reef accessible and well-populated. Service was a bit slow at times, but then who cares when you're in paradise...
To get there, take the air taxi. It's quick and convenient, and offers great views.
We stayed at the Sangu end of the resort, in a jacuzzi beach villa. We had one night in a water villa. We'd recommend booking a beach villa, or jacuzzi villa, if you want a good beach/view in front of your unit. The beach bungalows didn't all have good beach access or ocean views.
The Sangu end had great food, and the staff went out of their way to make the buffet presentation attractive. We didn't wear shoes once, even the restaurants have sand underfoot, although no beach wear is allowed - you'll need shorts and t-shirts for dining.
We took the dinner-and-breakfast package. The full-board upgrade would have cost an additional $30 per person, but we found we spent less than that each day on meals and extras. Franco's is the best place for a light and inexpensive lunch - a large burger costs around $9, with trimmings.
The staff survive on tips - waiters earn a basic of between $90 and $120 per month. The recommended tip is $10 per week, but more is obviously welcome. Don't forget to tip the room cleaner. In the restaurant, you are assigned a waiter for the duration of your stay, so there's no confusion over who gets what.
Overall, a stunning holiday in a professionally run resort.
