The way the stories have been structured.
It shows how in his life he knew he would make something of himself.
He never gave up.
It never showed why this happened to him and not the other members of his family.
Dave Pelzer, My Story: "A Child Called It", "The Lost Boy", "A Man Named Dave" - Overall I thought the books were very good. They show how Dave did not lose hope. He is telling people no matter how hard things in life may be you can always fight all the problems away. Dave has also given hope to the children and people who do get physically abused. He has shown and told what you can do and what happened to him when he remained quiet, that things just got much worse than he had hoped and he has shown people, especially children, how speaking to someone about your problems will help you and how if you stay quiet about it, things will get much better. He has said how it took time to overcome his fears about his mother. It shows the things he did to keep himself alive, how he stole food from shops and lunch boxes in his school.
