General Comments

Everyone I know who has had one of these says they are the most reliable and I have to agree. Ours is now 4 years ols and still going strong.

Dont bother with extra insurance cover as you wont need it !

I have the hotpoint aquarius ultima that just recently shredded the door seal, on closer inspection to what may have caused the problem, I found there is wear on the outer drum where the bearing fits.
cost of new outer drum £120 and will probably require new bearing + labour.
this is not the first this machine has caused a problem, it occasionally destroys shirts.

I hope this is of benefit to anyone contemplating buying one of these machines.

I have to add that we have had problems with our ultima shreading shirts as well. Ours went well for 5 years then all sorts of things started to fail.

Mine lasted 13 months and then the bearings went and it cost me £115 for it to be repaired by hotpoint

I have now had 4 machines (all replaced under warranty) with the latest lasting nearly nine months till now (bearings starting to fail) I have found Hotpoint to be incredibly difcult to the point where they blatantly lie, they are without doubt the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I only got my warranty claims accepted by writing to the UK customer services director! A colleage who used to work for HP saya that there is an inherent fault in the manufacture of these units resulting in a high number of early life failures (the drum assembly is turned during manufacture)

Our hotpoint aquarius is rubbish. We have called out the engineers 13 times. [yes 13]. Virtually every piece has been replaced. absolute cr*p. We will NEVER buy junk from this manufacturor again.

Hotpoint customer service is abysmal. They dont care. They really dont give a sh*t.

    DONT Buy this.

I have an Aquarius 1000 model. At just under 3 years old the mechanism retaining the drum 'fell apart'. The first thing the repair man asked was whether I had a water softener. Apparently the salt content in softened water causes corrosion in the alloy drum retaining mechanism, and 3 years between failures is normal under these circumstances. In my opinion this is an atrocious design - my previous machine (also a Hotpoint) did not suffer from this type of failure in 15 years, also with softened water.
