Solid, attractive design, good valu, good quality recording at higher bit rate, easy to navigate menus, good connectivity.
Plays only + media, many artifacts on low bit rates, display too small to read at distance, gets very, very hot, magnetic/radio shielding appears questionable.
Generally pleased with my Cambridge Audio DVD55-RWI, one of the few British manufactured DVD writers on the market. It has a full set of gold-plated connectors and works perfectly with my home cinema set-up. It's good value, and does what it's meant to. 2-hr recordings are the maximum I find acceptable in terms of quality; the 4-hr mode and less are full of artifacts. Appears vulnerable to radio interference (my central heating boiler -- which does not interfere with any of my other electronic equipment -- bizarrely causes diagonal green bands to appear on the display in "monitor mode") - intend to report this problem to Cambridge Audio. Took days to figure out the source of the interference. Although not causing me any alarm, the unit gets extremely hot during recordings - be careful with the surface you place it on!!
