5 Night Scheme Available
Saves the hassle of returning to Video Shop
Value for money
Reliable thus far
All in all I am impressed with the Blockbuster Video DVD Rental service as of writing this review. I signed up for the free trial so I could 'test the water' and I am happy to report that I will be subscribing permanently to this service upon completion of the trial. The scheme costs a pretty penny at £13.99 per month no less, however if you are regular renter then this is good value for money. You allowed up to 3 DVD's at any one time and there is no time limit in which to replace them which equals no late charges! Now bear in mind most Blockbuster movies are £3.75 a shot at the retail outlets so if you were to rent 3 DVD's on one occasion then you're looking at £11.25. So if you use this service only once then you probably breaking even when you consider petrol costs and the cost of your time that it takes to go to the video shop and back. Use it twice and boy, are you making on the deal. This is especially prevalent if you are family because as people with children will be aware that you can easily end up renting 3 to 4 films on one given night. If you're just a regular Joe with no wife and kids then 3 videos at one given time may seem excessive, however in theory these videos could keep you occupied for some time depending on how busy you are, and unlike the shop system, there is no time limit upon when to return the goods.
How does it work I hear you cry? Well it's pretty simple, you place your order online and the videos arrive within days courtesy of freepost and when you've watched them you post them back, again without shelling out for the stamps. When placing the order you make a list of DVD's that you want to watch and 3 of these will be posted out to you so if you want to watch a specific film then you may not get that film depending on how many films you have on your wanted list, however you can change the list at any time to incorporate new choices. I personally went with Blockbuster as I am a member of the retail service already and I can vouch from experience that they have a superior rental range to any shops I have used before. This is reflected in the online service as they lay claim to having unlimited stock.
So where's the downside? Well, the only negative I can level at this concept so far is that if you want to get a DVD spontaneously then it's not possible. The key to making this work is planning in advance, if by nature you leave things to the last minute then this scheme probably isn't for you. However, if you are a forward planner, a movie buff or have a family then I think you would get value for money back on this service.
