General Comments

I bought an NEC mobile phone from The Link which malfunctioned after about three months - one of the keys wouldn't work which obviously made it impossible to dial most numbers. I returned to the Islington branch of The Link to be met with the fairly unhelpful response that I should contact the manufacturer myself and discuss it with them.

I had thought that was the shop's job but apparently many high-street stores are fobbing people off on to manufacturers nowadays to keep their costs down. It represents poor customer service but is, as far as I know, legal.

NEC claimed the phone has sustained water damage though they offered no evidence as to why this was the case. I have no recollection of water being anywhere near it but, in the end, it's your word against theirs.

The Link staff shrugged their shoulders. I decided not to use the store again and to steer away from NEC as well. It was as if the onus was on me to prove that I hadn't damaged the phone rather than on them to prove I had.
