Good Points

Great for the kids, a superb educational tool with an excellent well laid out information booklet. Quite humurous for adults too.

Bad Points

A bit plasticky all-round. The components fit together but not brilliantly and the entire construcion is a little lightweight and susceptible to being blown over if outside.

General Comments

My first Ant Colony has sadly passed away. That's no reflection on the quality of ant-world, more on the user. After gradually introducing 30 or so ants over a 1 month period the colony proceeded to tunnel, make steep hills, separate gravel from sand and generally treat their new world as a bit of a working holiday. There were few fights and the ants grew to look after each other, feed each other and keep busy moving rocks and tunnelling.
As the winter approached they spent more time underground, huddled. I presumed they were conserving energy. Then tragedy struck. A steep anthill, built to detect the presecnce of predators I presume, collapsed resulting in a mass live ant burial. Soon after that the remainder of the colony gave up and simply died en masse !! I've learnt that more moisture is required so the sand binds together and lessens the prospect of landslides. Bring on the Summer - a great alternative Xmas present for all ages.

Great review but please tell me what did you feed the ants, and how much water did introduce to the nest?
