Good Points

Appearance good. Plenty of room in both fridge & freezer. Water filter is easy to replace.

Bad Points

Died after 3 months and we are waiting an unacceptably long time for parts.
Drinking water is too cold.
Freezer sometimes does not close fully without an extra push.

General Comments

We bought the Maytag MFD2560HES french door refrigerator 3 months ago. Last week it died. No cold, nada. Maytag sent a repairman out in 2 days. He had not a clue about dealing with the main control panel malfunction. He called and ordered another one and told me to contact the factory and check on the part today, about a week later. I was told by Maytag that the new control panel should be in "the middle of next week". That means that we are without a refrigerator for a minimum of 2 weeks. Since this is a new model, I suspect that there may be a glitch in the unit and they are either slow in producing replacement parts or must re-design the main controller.

I just called and added an extended warranty, something I NEVER do normally since we suspect we may have just purchased a lemon.

I am beginning to think all Maytag refrigerators are duds. We purchased a Maytag side-by-side with icemaker in August, 2001 for approx. $1500 US. It was repaired once under warranty, then the adaptive defrost enclosure had to be replaced in 2003. It went out again Monday past & we dumped the refrigerator. Even when repaired, it was never as cold as it should be. You hesitate to call the repairperson back as it is so expensive. The part, a small circuit board, wasn't protected from getting damp. Maytag added an enclosure to the part but it's still open in the back so moisture can still get in there. We got tired of continually throwing away food, especially dairy, and the mess & upset that didn't look like it would ever end. I removed everything I could from the unit to try to insure that it isn't repaired & sold to someone else.

I can feel for you. My Maytag MFD2560HES' control panel, ice dispenser went bonkers last night. I'm lucky because my husband's beer frig (Kenmore) is taking up the slacking Maytag. I'm unlucky because the Maytag is two weeks out of warrantee, but I'm fortunate to have a home warranty company that my husband told me not to invest in (I don't listen to him when he will be away in Iraq) covering me and taking care of the problem. I would have invested in a over all home warrantee company instead of just the extended warrantee on one appliance - cost can be less if you have two or more emergencies in a year.
