Route 343 Fantastic. Even though buses timetabled every 1-2 hours depending on time of date, they always turn up.
Bad Points
Manchester to Rochdale/Shaw service is a myth.
Still slight delays on 343, longer delays normally due to change of drivers at the bus station.
General Comments
After 2 years of using the 24, and 182 First Bus routes (Manchester to Rochdale)(Stagecoach excellent) I am now glad to say that I never have to use this service again.
From Rochdale to Manchester with a supposed frequency of 4 per hour I often found that 1 may turn up on time, not turn up at all or 3 may turn up together, ( perhaps so that consumers do cannot single out 1 bus driver to voice their frustration at).
From Manchester to Rochdale in the evenings there have been cases where I have waited 1hr and 1/2, others happy to let the driver know that they have been waiting 2hrs. This is not an exaggeration. The response received by First Bus staff is that they are short staffed that is why certain services just do not appear.
I now use the 343 service which is fantastic in comparision they are sometimes timetabled 2 hours apart but I can be assured that they will turn up. My only complaint about this service is change of drivers on every 343 service means having to wait until the takeover driver actually turns up and have to wait until he has read his paper and sorted himself out before actually being allowed to board.
