Lovely motor. Smooth and loadsa torque. Comefy for 2-300 miles before "butt death". Well balanced, low centre of gravity Sounds amazing with a pair of Blue Flame cans! Good heritage. Good brakes too!
Boingy front end gets all wishy washy when ridden hard on tight roads. Clunky gearbox at times. Drinks petrol at 100mph cruising.
Had my Yamaha XJR1300 motorcycle since new.( 02 ) Really wanted a ZRX12 but took the XJR because it was going cheap as it was an '01 model. The only difference being the paint scheme. £5300. Coo Ta!! Mainly had sportsbikes, the last being an FZR1000 RU, but had a few "sitty up" in the past too, and rather fancied a black or '02 blue XJR and also the aforementioned ZRX, to see if I could be a bit more restrained with my right wrist/hand and maybe hold onto my license for a little longer. Since getting the XJR I've been fortunate enough to have ridden the other three "Big Retro's" and found the XJR to be the most fun on your average 70-100 mph dash round the local racetrack (also known as "The Countryside") Leave it in fourth and ride those waves of torque baby!! It can go through back tyres in a hurry (2-2500 miles) if you're keen, and while the standard Macadams are up to the job, I found that the Dunlop equivelant are more confidence inspiring. More so in the dry summer months though, because they're pretty poor in the cold wet ones. Only mods to mine are the Blue Flame end cans (carbon fibre) belly pan, drag bars, Ohlins Fork springs, Eddie Lawson style twin headlamp fairing. It's going to get some more stuff thrown at it over this winter, like upside down forks, deep brace swingarm and also some engine work. Big bore kit, Dynojet blah blah... Would love a turbo, but I'd be cheaper just trading it for a 'Busa!! :o)
