Good Points

Good for important "long term" file storage
More robust than the average CD-R
Works exceptionally well with music files

Bad Points

A little on the pricey side. But if your not into taking ANY chances with your data and you want to be absolutly sure, this is the CD-R for you.

General Comments

The Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Ultradisc CD-R is a very well packaged 24 karat gold CD-R for people that are concerned with longevity. The packaging states a 300 year life which I kind of find hard to believe. However it is true that gold does not oxidize, so maybe there is some merit to the 300 year claim. With Samplitude I burned several discs on my plextor drive at 1, 4 and 8 x and found the 1 x burn to be remarkably better.
More testing to come but first impression is a really robustly made and accurate CD-R. Finally! I would guess these would also fair much better when it comes to being abused and still being able to be played back. In other words a day in the sun in your car would probably not wipe out this disc, like many others I've had. I left an "ultradisc" CD-R on my window sill that gets a 6-7 hous of direct sunlight a day for 10 days now and the disc still plays perfectly. If I had a dime for every cheap CD-R that got wiped out in my car from the sun......... Anyway a very promising product a little pricey, but the whole package with the anti-center hole stress lifting mechanism is very well executed.
