General Comments

There's no doubt that the V70 is extremely stylish. That's what sold it to me - it's totally different to to the Nokia that nearly everyone seems to have these days. Unfortunately looks can be deceiving. One of the things you take for granted with Nokias is their ease of use. While the V70 has some nifty features such as programmable nav keys and the ability to customise menus, it also falls down in a number of areas:- Firstly, I've had no end of problems in the two months since purchasing it. First, one of the nav buttons stopped working within the first two weeks. A few weeks later the backlight stopped working. I've had no end of problems with the Motorola repair centre who have failed to resolve the problems after numerous returns, but that's an issue regarding the manufacturer not the phone. Then again, the handset's reliabililty and customer service has to be taken into account. The menus can be unneccesarily complicated. I've counted ten keypresses to start a new text message and select a recipient, before I even start typing the text. The predictive text is clumsy. As you type, a number of alternative words appear down below, so you find you have to press "SELECT" after typing each word, unlike the Nokia where it's usually a smooth transition from one word to the next. For those of us who like individual ringtones, the composer is downright terrible. You have a choice of three different note lengths, and that's your lot. There isn't even a tempo control, so unless you are happy with nursery rhymes for your ringtones, forget it. Other minor niggles: no alarm (although there are calendar reminders) and the games are pretty awful.
