Dainorin712's Review of Gamo R77 6W
10th Nov 2004
Overall Rating
- Value for money

Realistic action & appearance; action has tight, high-quality feel; pretty good power; nice checkered wood grips; decent accuracy once sighted in; fun to shoot, especially if you're into realism in your BB/pellet weapons
Bad Points
Liberal use of plastic; velocity varies too much shot-to-shot for tight groups; wooden grips are raw wood (sanded, but not sealed or anything)
General Comments
I bought this revolver because when it comes to handguns I'm a big revolver fan, and in terms of action and appearance this model is more realistic than any other pellet revolver I've found. It's the only CO2 revolver I feel to be worthy of being called a replica. Another reason for my purchase was because it was advertised as being very accurate. The realism is on par with my expectations, and I'm very happy with it in that respect. Also, the action feels precise and tight. I'm not so happy that, except for the barrel lining, internal action, and grips, the entire gun is made of plastic. I'm also not so happy with how much the velocity differs between shots; I couldn't get a tight group at 10yds even using a solid rest. I could go either way on the power; it's satisfying (maybe due to the 6" barrel), but not as powerful as the less realistic Crosman and Smith & Wesson CO2 revolvers. Also, although I like the wood grips, I was disappointed that they aren't finished (I plan do this myself this winter). For $110, I would expect all-metal construction and finished grips. So, although I clicked "yes" as to whether I'd recommend it, I'd only recommend it to enthusiasts who are specifically looking for realism - if you're after strict functionality or raw power, there are better revolvers out there.

So, the Gamo R77 is more expensive, has fewer features and lower power than the Crosman 357. It still has its devoted followers, but feature for feature, the Crosman comes out on top.;

The grips are easily upgraded by applying tung oil onto the existing finish. About 3 or 4 coats will give a very nice and tough finish. Great gun for the money, but I believe they are phasing it out.
