Bad Points

Almost too many to mention - the main one being that it doesn't work! In the area I live in (North of England), it found NONE of the postcodes. The navigation was less than usefull, in fact downright dangerous.

General Comments

The Navman iCN 630 vII Satellite Navigation System was a complete disaster from the moment of purchase. I had terrible trouble trying to load the maps. The 'Help' centre suggested it may be because I have AOL on my computer. The store could not load the maps and I had to send the whole unit back for them to load the maps for me (Great Britain only).

The unit boasts that it recognises up to 5 digit postcodes and 'door-to-door navigation.' This is a complete falsehood. The first postcode I typed in it didn't recognise - nor the third - or the fourth, fifth or sixth. I drove to the store where I bought it and got the assistant to accompany me in the car to prove that it didn't work as claimed. He tried inputting his postcode -which - you guessed it, it didn't recognise! nor ANY that we typed in.

The assistant rang the help centre when we got back to the store and ONLY THEN did they offer the information that not all postcodes would be recognised - excuse me! Not all - just one would be nice!

My partner and I spent the whole weekend trying it out, and it was less than useless, in fact downright dangerous! It tried to direct us into fields with closed gates, telling us to turn right where no right turns existed, and couldn't even keep track of us, as it told us we were on the motorway, when we were in fact on an 'A' road which we know really well.

It is a disgrace to sell this unit. I can only presume that it works better in different countries, or even different parts of this country, otherwise I can't for the life of me understand how all the units are not returned as being useless.

I have had the Navman icn 630 for 2 years, (read the review Sean Haywood) I travel the length and bredth of the country and can only count on one hand the postcodes that it has failed to recognise and only then because they were new estates and the maps didnt recognise them. The problems that you are having only happen when you have a heat reflective windscreen, the gps reciever can not log an accurate co-ordinate position and will think you are elsewhere. The simple remedy is to install an external aerial (I had to do this also) this corrects the not recognising postcodes and off track problems.A good read of the instructions and a little bit of patience is all that's needed.
