General Comments

We stayed at Le Saphir / Hammamet Village for a week and got home yesterday (24 October 2004) and we couldn't wait to get home. There was not much to do at the hotel and there was nothing nearby, the beach was ok but you get hassled constantly and the walk down to the beach stunk and there were rats down the path too. If you like the same food everyday then you will be ok and the only beer available is Celtia and is 2%. The staff were friendly but only because we tipped them, if you don't then they can be quite rude, we paid out about 20 dinars in tips before we even got to our room on arrival!

I totally agree, we stayed at le saphir last september, allocated on arrival, it was my first time ever abroad and it was disgusting to say the least. The rooms were filthy, if you stayed in the hotel for a drink it was local beer 2%. The staff were down right rude and obnoxious. You were not given the chance to ask for a porter or any one they just pounced on you and helped themselves to the money in your hand while you were counting it. The beach was disgusting, filthy and I ended up ill after my stay there and ended up in hospital!! Do not go there, we went with first choice and would never go again, they would not compensate for my illness or anything. The only plus side was the room maids, they were brilliant, lovely women. The food was awful and the male staff horrendous. I would never advise anyone to go there, there are some beautiful hotels but that one give it a miss, a big no no.
