General Comments

I thought this Ford Escort RS2000 16v would be a seriously fast car but as it can only manage to hit 0-60 around 1 second faster than a 2 litre mondeo it really isn't that quick.

You have to keep it above 4000 rpm to get any decent acceleration but since the gear ratios are very close you are in 3rd gear at around 50 mph.

Economy was good though, I averaged 31mpg and most of that was going quite quick. Don't expect it to last though, the paint around the filler cap started bubbling and was soon turning bronze with rust spots showing.

It's a pity really, i wanted to like the car but at group 17 insurance there's plenty quicker (especially german diesels!!!!!)

I wonder how much performance a 15 year old German diesel had?

The engine is 15 years old, and a lot of development work on engines has happened since then, so yes the engine is a bit out dated now, but its still a good performer.

Yes rust is a big issue on this car, and Fords in general of the same era. So a proper inspection of the bodywork is very important. Repair panels etc are available though.
