Fabulous on road performance
excellent performance and economy
The monthly repayments hurt!
could bog it on wet grass
The BMW X5 3.0D Sport 4x4 diesel is a joy to drive, with excellent road manners for such a large car. You would not know it is a diesel to drive with gutsy low range torque, with the turbo giving a firm push in the back from about 1600rpm. The 19 inch wheels sit out wide giving stability that would shame most sedans. The common rail injection not only gives power and smoothness comparable to a larger capacity pertol engine, but economy is remarkable, with 7.8 l/100kms. Even with heavy towing, ecomony never goes past 16 l/100km.
The sports seats are firm, and the cockpit is true BMW.
The boot is a little small for a young family, and the purchase price is the GDP of a small nation, but if you want a car of this size with some towing capacity, the X5 diesel sets the benchmark.
