Good Points

Good images. Easy to use. Replaceable batteries are great when on the move.

Bad Points

Batteries run out very quickly with sustained use.

General Comments

I have been very pleased with the PowerShot A8. It is my first digital camera and I would not want to go back to a film camera now. The image quality and ease of use are excellent and it has given us a great deal of pleasure. The only surprise has been the high battery consumption. I assume that this is similar for all digital cameras. Having replaceable batteries means that I don't have to remember to keep recharging, carry a recharger or find somewhere to recharge. AA batteries are relatively cheap nowadays. I would be nervous about owning a camera with a built in battery as battery life really is the single biggest limitation. The software that comes with the camera is easy to use, but I have not tried to do any complex editing.

Robert.....if you intend taking lots of pics, you'll do your wallet a favour by getting a set of Lithium Ion batteries with charger. Don't cost the earth and will pay for themselves over and over.
    Happy snapping friend.
