General Comments

I have a 2000 model BMW 5 Series 540i V8 executive car with the sport package and 6-speed manual transmission. It's the first car I've owned, and all around it is very classy and tasteful. However, it's definitely not the M5, and being a horsepower junkie, I've honestly already grown a bit bored with this car since I bought it two months ago. Mainly, it's that the ride is too beefy. The only way to know you're accelerating as fast as this car is capable of is to look out the window at the landscape rushing by. In the M5, you would know what the car is doing...and you'd be scared out of your mind. There are plenty of other cars with the same performance numbers as the 540i that are much more exciting to drive, and I kinda wish my car had some of that. However, the opposite side of this is that the car is a dream on the highway at high speeds. You can do 100mph without noticing that perhaps you are breaking the speed limit. But once you get up there, you'll notice the main characteristic that diffrentiates this car from the M5 which is that the M5 will continue to pull very strongly from that speed. But finances interfere with my dreams, and I would definitely say that this is the best sedan available for the money. And the next time you go to a BMW dealer, look and see how many M5's are in the service lot. It makes me laugh every time.
