Good Points

Pistol made of metal, not cheap plastic.
Adjustable rear sight, fixed front sight.
Can use full sized .45 grips to customize the feel.
Loads of power for squirrels and birds beyond 30 feet.
Low and high power settings.
Well constructed.
Highly accurate.
Built-in scope rails.
Adjustable 2 stage trigger.

Bad Points

Loading area for pellets could be re-designed for easier loading.

General Comments

I found the Beeman P1 a highly accurate and hard hitting spring powered pistol.
Easily took out a squirrel from 30' away with a .20 Beeman Silver Point. Highly accurate for a pistol of this size (11" over all). The .20 caliber generates 5.1 fp of energy at the muzzle, and 500 fps.
The noise level of this pistol is less than that of my RWS 48 in .177.
Excellent aesthetics overall and great to shoot!

Iīve had an P1 Magnum/HW45 with interchangeable .177, .20, .22, and .25 (6.35mm) barrels for some years now; itīs superb both as a firearms trainer (because of the recoil characteristics), and as a general use air pistol. The design is very durable, itīs certainly powerful with the full-power spring, and itīs surprisingly accurate once youīre accustomed to the rearward push.
The only beef I have is that although switching barrels is easy, when you do so the point of impact can shift radically from caliber to caliber, to the point that the rearsight vertical adjustment just wonīt be adequate. Beeman used to sell a foresight adaptor to get over this problem. If you canīt find such a unit, inserting a pair of shims into the front barrel support can sometimes help. Other than that, itīs hard to fault as a general-purpose air pistol.

What kind of .20 pellets work best for hunting, accuracy, etc., on the P1?

Accuracy has to be experimented with from gun to gun, caliber and especially distance. What might be deadly accurate at 20 feet might be horrible at 20 yards. Through years of experimenting with over a dozen rifles and pistols with ranges from 15 feet to 46 yards have shown round nose pellets to be the best all around, especially if you shoot at longer ranges. The Beeman FTS pellets are amazing in consistant shape, weight, performance and they show good fpe. Crosman Premiers are very good also, though not as tight a bore fit in some guns as I would like. Also, as always JSB Exacts are right at the top as well.
