General Comments

Sony seem to have looked to the future in their latest models of home cinema. The 550 includes the latest Dolby support prologic II. Unless your a game fan you might not of heard about the new format. Dolby Pro Logic II allows for a standard stereo input to be plugged in to give full 5.1 Surround sound! Obviously there is one small catch that the bass level is very low! But it shows how the Dolby Labs are thinking of new ideas. So far only the New Nintendo GameCube is the only piece of equipment to take onboard this new piece of technology. The 550 builds on the older model (500) with a more stylish setup and the additional support of CD-R, CD-RW, VCD's and SVCD! So at least Sony are hearing what we all want! Rumours are out that you can enter a password on the remote to unlock the region coding.

    I can see where your coming from when you say the base is very low, Although you can increase and decrease the base amp by +6 and -6 you still have to understand this system is solely designed for a small to medium room, and by god does it pack some punch in my small sitting room, about 12 x 9 foot, Excellent piece of kit and cd,s sound Great too.10/10

    it suck a lot..it cannot connect my sblive with full 5.1 at this system...SONY go home!!!

    Hi, I fancied a Home cinema system, saw the DAVs 550 and thought, THATS FOR ME. I liked the styling very much (although you shouldn't choose a product, just becuase it looks nice) and visited the sony website which didn't tell me much. I thought someone could advise me who already has the DAVs 550 on how good the product is.



    I have read all the comments about it on this page and there seems to be a problem with lacking bass. I'd like to use this to plug in my PC, TV and Electronic Yamaha Keyboard. The facacillity to play DVD's would be useful but i was looking at using more as a really good surround system.



    Do you feel that this unit doesn't provide enough bass? Are there units avaiable (no more expensive though) that give a good shot of bass?



    This system is 500watts? Inc 100watts of bass?



    so whats your views?
