Good Points

Mid range performance, economy, steering and roadholding, ride quality, styling, build quality, ease of driving, reliability

Bad Points

Not much, but the steering has a tendency to wander to the nearside (left) which is particularly noticable at high speeds. Everything has been checked out but I'm not buying the local dealer's excuse that "It's only the camber on the road". The Toledo I previously owned also had this fault but not to the same degree and a VW Scirocco also did the same. What is it about VW group cars?

General Comments

I bought my Seat Leon 1.9 TDi 110 SE after owning a superb Toledo TDi 110 for three years and 60,000 miles of superb performance and reliability. The car is easy and fun to drive. The engine always feels smooth and willing with great mid range pull, the high gearing gives relaxed and effortless high speed cruising and the steering and roadholding is of a high standard. My wife runs a Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec which is a very good car but we both prefer the Leon as it is superior in almost every department. There is a daily argument as to who's turn it is to drive the Leon! The Focus has better steering feel but the Leon is not far behind, while the roadholding and ride are about equal. The Focus averages 34mpg while the Leon does 48mpg, driven hard! I can't understand why the Focus is rated quite as highly in car magazine reviews. The only fly in the ointment for the Leon is the tendency for the steering to wander to the left. On any other car I would not tolerate it, but as I like everything else I think I can live with it.
