Good Points

Good looker & head turner. Loads of chrome for that big bike look.

Bad Points

A little quiet on the exhaust noise.

General Comments

Bought a Suzuki VL 125 Intruder earlier this year for the wife who had only got one of those 'twist & go' things! She was really impressed with the big bike look and all the chrome. Although it's only a 125 it gets plenty of heads turning and nods from other passing bikers.
The exhaust noise is a little quiet but saying that it was soon solved with a set of 'flatpipes' attached to the rear half of the exhaust. Now I can really, and I mean really wake up the neighbours and make the windows rattle.
Fuel ecomomy is excellent and insurance not that bad. A couple of bad points...theres no fuel gauge so you have to keep checking the level inside the tank and Im sure it would benefit from a rev counter just for peace of mind when giving it a good thrashing.
All in all an excellent bike that is also learner legal.

What sort of flatpipes can you install on this Intruder? Please let me know as most likely it's gonna be the first mod that i will go for. Thanks in advance.

The flat pipes that I mentioned were purchased on ebay. I paid £80 for them & all they are are chrome pipes that replace the rear silencer part of the exhaust (they act as a 'straight thro' type system with NO sound baffling).
If you want to get an idea of the sound you will get from your machine before splashing out the cash unscrew the rear half of your exhausts so that all it leaves is the two front chrome pipes (you'll have to remove all the exhaust system first to get to the awkward screws etc). A tip though.....dont ride your bike very far with the rear of the exhaust missing cos its gets a bit hot around your ar*e area !!
    Phil..

Nice tips Phil. I will certainly go ahead with this mod. Cheers, Andy

how do you remove the sections?

  • wizard69 Rank: Lance Corporal on 27th Mar 2008

If you completely remove the full exhaust system (unbolt it from the engine end with an allen key fitting).
Once its off you should see on the inner side of the exhaust system screws (may be bolts) that remove the rear half of the exhaust.

can you bore out the engine to make it bigger than a 125cc

I dont know about boring it out, I think it would be a bit expensive & you would have to let your insurance co' know how you have modified the bike cos if you had an accident & they checked it they would more than likely refuse to pay out.
If I were you I would spend the money on a direct access course and get your big bike licence (about £500).
