General Comments

This summer I once again travelled with Iberia Airlines, and yet once again things did NOT go smoothly - in fact it was a DISASTER!!!

I was scheduled on Iberia Airlines Flight 575 departing Vigo on July 14th at 14:55P.

After sitting on the hot plane for sometime, we were all asked to leave the plane and wait in the Airport Terminal.

Once in the Airport Terminal, no other announcements were made in English only in Spanish.

Needless to say after 1 hour of waiting, I went to the Iberia Ticket Counter, found out that there were Mechanical Problems with Flight 575. The Ticket Counter Person advised that I need to be patient and that I will be on the next available flight out. I advised that Ticket Counter Person that I had a connecting flight from Madrid to Amsterdam which I needed to make to ensure that I would make my flight from Amsterdam to Toronto, Canada.

I asked if there were any other flights that could take me from Vigo to Madrid so that I could make my connection and the Person advised that I had to wait. Then when it was obvious that I was not going to make the connection to get me from Madrid to Amsterdam, I inquired about getting another flight, and the Ticket Person in Vigo advised me that everything would be taken care of for me in Madrid.

Well, I go to Madrid and Iberia's Customer Service falls down to absolutely nothing.

Because Iberia Airlines could not get me to Amsterdam for my Air Transat Flight 339 which left Amsterdam on July 15th at 09:20 --- I had to purchase another Ticket. I purchased a KLM Ticket Flight 691 at 14:10 this Ticket cost me $777.58 EUR which ended up being $1250.13 Canadian Dollars.

Iberia Airlines told me that they do not care that I missed a connecting flight, and advised me that they would NOT assist in getting me on another flight. I spoke with a couple of Gentlemen who had also missed a flight because of Flight 575 and the mechanical problems, and they told me that Iberia Airlines got them different flights, one was a connecting flight with SwissAir and I can't remember the other one, but their connecting flights were not with Iberia Airlines.

When I booked all my flights, I made sure I had enough time in-between flights to make all connections. Obviously this was not enough time. Do travellers with Iberia Airlines need to book days in-between connecting flights, just in case of Mechanical Problems?

What I want and expect from Iberia Airlines is to reimburse me for the Flight Ticket I had to buy from Amsterdam to Toronto.

I can Fax you all the relevant documentation, let me know what your Fax Number is, or it you are not that Technically Advanced yet, email me your Mailing Address.

Details below as to what I had purchased...

Iberia Airlines
IB 575 - Vigo to Madrid - 2:55P - 4:00P - July 14th
IB 3244 - Madrid to Amsterdam - 7:15P - 9:49P - July 14th

Air Transat Holidays
TS 339 - Amsterdam to Toronto - 09:20A - 11:30A - July 15th
This is the Flight that I missed because of Iberia Airlines Mechanical Problems

This is the flight they put me on...
IB 3254 - July 15th leave Madrid at 08:50 arriving Amsterdam at 10:30
as you can see there was no way that I was going to get on the Flight scheduled for me back to Toronto
TS 339 - Amsterdam to Toronto - 09:20A - 11:30A - July 15th

KLM
KL 0691 - Amsterdam to Toronto - 14:10P - July 15th
This is the Flight that I had to buy to get back to Toronto
This is the money that I expect to receive back from Iberia Airlines
$777.58 EUR which ended up being $1250.13 Canadian Dollars

There are other costs that I had to pay out of my own pocket because of Iberia Airlines Mechanical Problems. I had to call Canada numerous times to get hold of people advising them that I was not getting back to Toronto when I was suppose to. There were calls to my Travel Agent to try and find me another flight. There was the food I had to buy in Vigo while waiting around for the Mechanical Problems to be corrected.

I have travelled with Iberia Airlines numerous times and everytime there was something...flights leaving Amsterdam going to Madrid are always late, 2 years ago you lost my luggage, the luggage never left Vigo, I was in Hamburg a few days before you got it to me.

Does Customer Service not mean anything to Iberia Airlines?

What should of happened in Vigo once you determined there to be a Mechanical Problem, is something called being PROACTIVE!!! Iberia Airlines should of solicited its travellers for Connecting Flights, and you should of made immediate arrangements to ensure that connecting flights were made. That is called being PROACTIVE, I sincerely hope that you learn the meaning of the word - PROACTIVE!!!

I was delayed flying to Venice, missed my cruise and never got my luggage. I am out thousands of dollars and can't get anyone to assist me. They have been rude to me, I experienced little customer service courtesy and do not recommend this airline to anyone!
