Good Points

Shaver is clean with each use.
New foil design plucks hairs and cuts well.
Fits comfortably in hand.
Controls are very easy to use.

General Comments

Braun Activator - This is my first electric shaver in over 20 years. I have thick, wirey facial hair and had given up electric shavers for the razor. Recently, I was using a new vibrating razor, but it would cut my face every so often. I did some research about the Braun electric shavers, the Sychron and the Activator. The Activator appealed to me because of the unique foil design. The new shaver comes with a warning that it would take 2 to 3 weeks for my face to condition to electric shavers if I had prevously been using a razor. But, upon my first use I received a smoother shave than I had ever been able to get with a razor! This shaver is just amazing and a joy to use each day. I will never go back to using razor blades again.

    I was wondering how much the cleaning fluid was. Will plain alcohol work?? Else if it's their special blend that could cost money. I've read 3 reviews now and everyone likes this shaver but don't talk about cleaning costs. It looked like to me that it's $10 every 2 months for their special fluid.

    The Braun cleaning fluid is alcohol but does have an added lubricant that extends the life of the cutters and foil.

    My guess is that denatured (no water content) alcohol will work well if 2 or 3 drops of lubricant are added. I suggest baby oil or mineral oil, no synthetics or petroleum based lubricants. I have not been able to determine if the Braun fluid has any type of disinfectant in it. I doubt it.

    This is my first Braun self cleaning unit (Activator). I am delighted with it.
