Good Points

Solid construction, finish, fully adjustable sights, accuracy, "fun" factor.

Bad Points

That serrated trigger! Rattly RH grip, slide latch to release barrel.

General Comments

The Crosman C40 is a similar pistol to the 1008, but is built of zinc alloy, with greater attention to finish. Internal parts are steel, rather than plastic, giving the pistol a similar "heft" to the S&W 4506. My pistol has proved extremely accurate, considering it has a relatively short barrel. It can consistently group 5 shots inside 12mm, centre-to-centre, from a rest. In single action the trigger is quite acceptable, letting off crisply and fairly lightly. Double action is heavy, still fairly smooth, but much harder to shoot accurately. The fun of banging off a 5 round rapid-fire string is awesome, and the beer cans go flying! I would like to see Crosman do something about the RH grip, which remains loose even when a CO2 cartridge is installed, and those serrations in the trigger - are they really necessary? My last grizzle is about the slide release - if it operated up-and-down, rather than front-to-rear, fewer "involuntary ejections" of the magazine would occur!
All round, though, I like the pistol a lot, and really enjoy shooting it.

I found this review to be very helpful. I have just purchased this gun and was trying to find out what others thought. I now know what to expect, both pros and cons about this gun. Thanks!

I have this gun and i love it. It is hard to keep it under control in double action but that is why you have to strenthen you wrists. But i do admit it is eaisier in single action. what i do about the loose grip is i put a empty powerlet tank in it but open the end up a little more to be shore not to damage the peircing pin. I really like the feature of the piercing lever and it is probably one of the most simple guns i have used. About the lever that is used to open the the "chamber" i havent "accidently expelled an un used clip" I really love this gun.

I plan to buy this myself. I play alot of videogames which have really gave me finger strength. I've shot alot of springers in the past, but it's time to move to something lethal.
Maybe even stick a trigger mounted laser to it.

What I dont get is why these companies are shying so much from the blow-back slide design. Way back when I was about 16 I had a Daisy PowerLine 400. If you arent familiar with this gun Ill fill you in. It was a Desert Eagle replica and had the blow back slide mechanism. This was one great gun. Of course it was a BB gun but it still was a great gun. It was discontinued a while back and I wished I had kept it but I got rid of it a year after I bought it. This Crossman C40 really looks great and thats my little complaint. If they just went a little further (I know it would have increased the cost and probably degraded CO2 lifetime) and added a blow-back mechanism it would be great. I know it dosent add to the actual performance of the gun or the functionality but it just seems to make shooting much more fun. Otherwise this is a well built gun that shoots pretty hard. I prefer my nickel Walther CP88 Competition edition with the 6" barrel but it was way more expensive than the CP88.
