Good Points
The most human dog you will ever own.
Temperament is superb.

Bad Points
Can be difficult to house train.
Protruding eyes can cause problems.
Do not cope with heat. Or cold.
They shed ALL the time. Fawns more than blacks.
Expensive to purchase.

General Comments
I am so glad and so perplexed why this wonderful breed is not more popular. Glad because it keeps the secret amongst us Pug owners, and perplexed as there is not a more perfect pet dog.

If you like silliness, clowning around, affection, devotion, gentleness, (especially with children, who they are devoted to) and a smart looking easy keep coat, then look no further. This is the ideal town dog, but please don't leave your Pug alone for many hours, they are so devoted they find it hard to cope.

The health problems are there, as there are in all breeds, but slipping patellas, fitting, Hemi-Vertabrae, Pug Dog Encepalitis, eye problems, to name some of the more usual complaints, are things to watch for. Please get a puppy from parents that have been HV tested and have not produced slipping patellas, it is quite a big operation to correct. (and expensive)

If you decide to succoumb, you will join the band of slaves that are devoted to their pets, and you will also not be able to walk anywhere without people commenting and wanting to talk about this quaint, cute and beautiful breed.

Be prepared to pay between £800 and £1200 for a puppy.

Pug002's Response to silverlady's Review

We have a 19 week pug puppy had him since 5th April. Andy Alexander is his name.
He is our 4th pug the first one was nearly 18 when he died, the second and third we had together 18 months after Nigel died. Arnold lived till 11 and Alfred 14 years. It has been 6 years till we got Andy and oh boy what a reality check. He is the most adorable cuddly boy but sooo stubborn and yes won't come unless there is a treat involved. Hubby is training him and doing the basics great, but when not on a leash he is so stubborn. Cannot understand why he pees outside then comes in and poos, or vice versa. He has a doggy door and uses it, but we cannot fathom why he does this. Have tried every spray to stop him chewing and pulling at curtains clothes etc, nothing works. Do not get Bitter Lime you end up tasting it all the time and he is not deterred. He sleeps beautifully 9 hours during the night, but during the day won't sleep unless sleeping beside one of us on the recliners. Yes we are slaves to him but how can you resist that adorable face and his cuddles and kisses. Would love comments on the issue of toileting and the biting everything in site. We even had to fence off around the house as we don't have lawn only cracked gravel and he was eating and swallowing them. He still has a lot of paved area to run around in and a sandpit.
