Technophobe's review of Land Rover Defender TD5 LWB County

“For the reasons above and Landrovers lack of interest...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Technophobe on 13/09/2004

Good Points
Great go anywhere car that is really at home in the rough stuff. I like the look/image too if that's important. The vertical sides make the car narrow for wooded areas and also keeps the temperature down when it's hot. There's plenty of space in the back and the extra front seat is handy too. Aluminium body work is handy too although it will oxidise, it's not as bad a rust.

Bad Points
The early engine is rubbish. Due to a known design fault the heads move pressurising the jacket and splitting the cases. This writes the entire engine off. Do Landrover give a damn? No. Mines not the only one either everyone I've spoken to round here and there are a few has blown an engine at around 100,000 miles. For a ultilty vehicle that is disgraceful.

General Comments
For the reasons above and Landrovers lack of interest the Landrover Defender TD5 LWB County 4x4 will be the last Landrover I ever buy and there are a lot of farmers round here who will go the same way.
