Good Points

The highest quality digital camera and video.
Good-looking handset.

Bad Points

The fact you lose your £15 credit after every month.
Also spendig more money on usb and memory stick.

General Comments

NEC E228 - I have had the e228 for a few weeks now and I have had no problems. The camera is superb and a very good quality. The keypad takes some getting used to but don't they all? I've noticed that to lock the keypad you have to use a 4-digit password everytime you lock and unlock which is quite annoying. I have only one point to make, in order to put mp3s on the phone, you must purchase a memory stick and a usb cable which are quite pricey. All in all, for the price, the size and all the features of the e228 there is real value for money.

A good review - apart from the key locking section

It is actually possible to lock the keypad by pressing Menu then * (star) and unlocking using the same combination of keypresses - I will admit though the instructions on this are rather small in the instructions but are at the foot of page 9.3 of the instruction booklet

Battery life is awful which seems to be a problem with most 3g phones especially as the GPRS connection is automatically set to "always on" rather than "when needed" some days I have to charge the phone 2 or even 3 times - I took my phone off charge at 09:00 today and now at 17:30 it says it needs charging again - seriously considering going back to O2 - especially now that the "improved?" £15.00 voucher makes it very expensive to run especially if you cannot afford a £25 voucher each month - I put one on last month but found I had 280 minutes left at the end of the 30 days which I lost or rather were stolen from me by 3pay is this fair?

Try pressing menu then star and it will lock the keypad with out the need to enter pin numbers and do the same to unlock it, I have had one of these phones for a few weeks and its identical menu system to the NEC 313 (THE BRICK) but not a bad phone for the price £45.00 in argos at the mo with 100 mins and £1.50 worth of credit. But if your after a nice quality phone then I recommend the LG U8110 - U8120, which I had first but lost so had the NEC as a replacement.

You don't need to type in a code to lock keys, it's basically the same as a nokia handset, press menu and then star to lock, and the same to unlock.

It's not a great camera. For £15+ a month you can get a smaller smarter nokia with a 1 megapixel camera, which is reasonable. The e228 has about 300,000 pixels.
