Good Points

Beautiful beach and location. A smart, clean and neat hotel.

Bad Points

The whole ethos of the hotel is geared up to getting customers to trade up on their rooms and services. Beau Rip-off is the name that springs to mind. All this is done with courteous servility, which I found indemnifying. e.g. If I have to serve myself at a buffet, I do not need someone to carry my plate to the table! If it's a waiter service that's different.

The man who continuously offered to clean your sunglasses was doing it for a tip obviously. Again it was indemnifying and a nuisance. But if you still choose to go to this hotel, then for the safety of yourself and your family do not go out on the sailing craft. This is highly dangerous. The local people do not have a clue about health and safety regulations and are not prepared for emergencies. Unless, this is improved, then I fear a tragedy would be inevitable.

General Comments

Countries like any other products have a cycle in marketing terms. Initially they are responsive to provide VFM to gain entry in the market. Then when demand grows they become complacent and see the tourist as a cash cow. Mauritius is now at this latter stage. If this was my first holiday I might have been less perceptive. Nonetheless I shall not return to Mauritius.

As someone who lived in Mauritius for 4 years I am saddened to hear of anyone who doesn't like it, I think this reviewer is not used to the high standards offered in a five star hotel (cleaning of glasses and carrying ones plate to the table).
