General Comments

We spent our honeymoon at Riu Palace Mexico in June 2003. This was really the best hotel we had ever experienced: luxury, friendliness of the staff, quality of the food, everything was excellent. I would recommend this hotel to everyone I know.

However If you do not like a luxury hotel and its guests stay away, because this is as fancy as it gets. The hotel has a huge buffet of international dishes, with an extra stand of all typically local dishes which I think is an excellent feature. All dishes are good and divers.

There are also other restaurants were you can have lunch or dinner, all or excellent in there own (Italian and Mexican (near the beach, the 2 least good restaurants, then an "a la carte" restaurant, very good and intimate atmosphere, and a grill restaurant, where they offer different meats right from the grill stick (fun and excellent).

The service at the bars is good and the choice in beverages includes local (in the cocktails) and the original brands. We even had a free minibar with had original brands of alcohol. Rooms are roomy and nice, well kept and maintained. The grounds of the complex are unbelievable, very romantic and relaxing. the private beach is superb, with chairs and palm trees, right out of the brochure.

At night you can walk or take a taxi to playa del Carmen, which have a lot of bars and shops, but we always had a slight feeling of unsafe ness in the town although we did not see any crime or here any stories. Probably the difference between the well secured hotel area and the town that caused the feeling.

If you are looking for luxury and top quality (even stars come to this hotel, we met Lorenzo lamas (TV-star) and davide trezeguet (French international football) in the hotel) you can place a sure bet on this hotel that you'll like it
