General Comments

This is a warning for anyone intending to order books with Adebooks. Adebooks, unlike online bookshops such as Amazon, is an AGENT. It acts as an agent for a vast number of smaller booksellers, and accepts NO RESPONSIBILITY for orders. In my case, I ordered some books from a UK company called APLEX BOOKS via Adebooks. When Aplex Books sent only part of my order and failed to send two books that I had paid for, I emailed Adebooks for advice. I received a formal reply telling me that the contract was between me and the bookseller, and that Adebooks accepts no responsibility for orders themselves. It was clear, in other words, that they weren't concerned whether the sellers on their database were honouring their contracts. I was left with nothing more than an email address for APLEX BOOKS and to this day - almost 6 months later - I have still not received the books I paid for.

I hope this does not sound too negative. Adebooks does seem to be a great way to find rare or out-of-print books. But remember that although they process your orders, they will do nothing if you have a problem with receiving your order. A little disappointing, I think, given that an agent really should concern itself with the practice of the sellers it deals with.

In future, I'll stick with Amazon, which may be expensive but always protects the customer.

    I don't know adebooks - anything to do with abebooks? Anyway, the most important bit of your warning is to AVOID APLEX BOOKS! Whichever site you find them on! I found them on Abebooks, ordered a book, they debited my card twice, didn't deliver, didn't refund, didn't respond to most emails and when they did, just made empty promises. Three months later, I am still out of pocket and would never trust Aplex Books again.
