Good Points

Strong performance, great handling. A really well designed car for it's time.

Bad Points

Weaker 1.3-liter model driveshafts and tacky paintwork. Unwanted wheelspin on fast take-off. Cut-off valve: limited to 6500rpm (head limit at 8000rpm)

General Comments

I bought this Mazda 121 with only 1300kms on the dial and it wasn't even run in. By the time I had done 10,000kms it was running better than ever. I put on new brakes (14 inch discs all round) and a set of alloy wheels (17x7).

With a car full of people there is a strong decline in power; that comes with every small car.

Suspension is good and firm even with five full grown men in the car. Body-roll is very rare.

Fuel economy is excellent. When driven properly it only uses about 7ltrs/100km

The 1.5 model uses the same driveshafts as the 1.3 model so they aren't all that strong. You can buy racing driveshafts which are well worth the extra money if you intend on thrashing.

I have run the car on racing fuel (100 plus octane) with spitfire added to the tank and the speedo went off the dial. I atleast got 195km/h.

I would recommend this car to anyone who wants fuel economy and a good time.
