Nice camp site, located in a picturesque location.
You can not let dogs off the lead. The owner of the site could be friendlier.
The campsite is located just outside of Holmfirth. There are two fields to pitch tents and an area for caravans. The campsite is clean and it is set in the middle of woodland. A river runs by the site which is nice. It also has a small fishing pond which you can use for a small fee. The site shop is great value for money and some things are cheaper than going to a supermarket. The toilets are very warm and clean, you can have a shower for 25p for 5 mins, the water is usually warm but it is solar powered. There are 2 sockets to plug hair dryers in. We pitched 3 tents, a gazebo and had 2 cars, for two nights it cost £50. There were 6 of us so it cost just over £8 per person. Be warned you will be charged for a gazebo but it is not in the price list. We arrived on a quite damp night, so we had loads of little midges eating away at us so insect repellent may be a good idea, especially if you pitch near the river. The site has loads of ducks! They are everywhere, it is funny to watch them, but they do wake you up early in the morning quacking around the tents. One point that I was extremely disappointed with was that dogs are not allowed off a lead AT ALL, if the owner of the site sees your dog off the lead she is likely to shout and swear at you! This happened to us on the first night. There are plenty of places to take your dog for a walk, but if you have a dog which loves to chase a ball and never gets tired, it can be very frustrating for the dog, owners and the people next door when your dog starts whimpering when you tie it up. The owner of the site is lovely uless you get on the wrong side of her she will try to find things to pick on, this might be because we were a young group (3 girls and 3 lads between the ages of 19 and 24, she may have had the impression that we were out just to cause trouble and the dog off the lead incident just gave the perfect excuse to let her feelings be known. I would not recommend the site for younger people for this reason.
Holmfirth is a lovely place to visit; it is about a mile from the site. There are plenty of cafes, pubs and gift shops as well as the obvious attractions. We were very impressed with the pub called The Postcard, there is a really friendly atmosphere and the food was lovely, we were very impressed with the prices, you can have 7oz steak and chips, a chicken fillet or gammon for £4.50, and it was presented on a sizzling skillet.
