- Good articles
- Relevant interviews
- Latest news and updates
- Too many classifieds and ads
- Panders to stereotypes
Gay Times - Gay magazines at the moment seem to be in an identity crisis - they can either be serious publications fighting against discrimination and bias, or merely light-hearted men's mags attempting to amuse and entertain their readers. Gay Times seems to gets caught in the middle, in that it mixes hard news with the more frothy stuff - travel and culture reviews, plus the usual collection of glossy pics of hunks. For such a serious mag, they seem to still make the fault of treating their readership as being all camp queens, which can get very juvenile. And the back half of the magazine is all classifieds and adverts - very useful (as I can attest) if you're looking for that gay-friendly B&B in Wales, but otherwise a considerable waste of half your money. Plus, the competition has hotted up a lot recently, with better mags such as ReFresh, Attitude and others appearing, which take themselves less seriously, and are more like gay equivalents of FHM, et al.
