Good Points

Good location for a family break, most of the staff are very good, entertainment is good for the kids.


Bad Points

Breakfast is disgusting; rooms are basic, cleaning staff need lessons in cleaning. No parking.


General Comments

I stayed at the Best Hotel Sol D'or from 26 July to 09 august 2004 with my wife and 7yr old son. I booked this trip independently and hired a car as they say they have a car park for guests, which is under the hotel, when I asked about using it I was told that it was full, however my room was above the entry/exit (which was locked shut) and in 2 weeks I didn't see one car go in or out. I had to drive round the block numerous times searching for a space, on one occasion the car got damaged on the street.

I am a big man and like my food, but after 4 days decided to give breakfast a miss, it was just gross. but on the other hand the evening meal was quite pleasant with lots of choice.

My other grumble is the cleaning of the very basic rooms (that I would rate as a 2* at most). The bedding wasn't changed in 2 weeks, windows of balcony doors haven't been cleaned in a long time and I ended up sweeping the floors myself as they didn't bother to do it.

Fairly good location near a nice beach and various shops good for young family or older couples, those looking for a lively resort would be better off at the nearby "Blackpool in the sun", sorry I mean Salou!!!

Most of the staff speak good English, with the exception of one of the bar girls, who just grunts at people even if they speak Spanish to her, but we just avoided her. The bar can get very busy in the evening as there isn't much to do in the area.

In the 2 weeks we were there the music didn't start before 3pm but did go on until midnight but at the end of the day you're on holiday and is midnight really that late!!! the man and woman who do the entertainment are very very good, they go out of there way to get the kids involved I can't praise them enough!!!

Pool area is very good although the pool is a little small, always a life guard on duty, and plenty of beds and chairs to go round.

As regards people being robbed from there room, get a safe, surely if you have valuables you would lock them away not leave them out to tempt people.

Worth a visit, universal mediterana and Costa caribe, don't bother with the water park in la Pinada, it was very poor compared to Costa caribe.
