Kyle MacRae, The Computer Manual: The Step-by-step Guide to Upgrading and Repairing a PC - Haynes publications Computer Troubleshooting book is an excellent book. It shows how to find missing dll files, how to find missing cab files from Windows CD, etc., suggests site-like dll-files, bios-central.com (to understand bios beep code, etc.)

Book may come with useful shareware/freeware on CD.
