john taylor.'s Review of Orange Mobile Phone Network

Good Points

Orange provide excellent coverage.

Bad Points

They do have a capacity problem which can drive you mad 'network busy' constantly in built up areas. When I complained, they said that they were aware of the problem but had no short term solution.

General Comments

I recently moved to Cellnet, I was with Orange for 3 years and noticed the problem becoming frequent throughout 2000, this prompted my move to BT Cellnet-the only UK net that runs a national dual band system, their 900/1800mhz system seems to provide a very good overall service. Best of all Cellnet have the lowest landline to mobile rates, something that many overlook when going mobile.

I question BTCellnet's "unique" ability to run on dual band 900/1800mhz. They are licensed (along with Vodafone) to use the 900Mhz band. The 1800 band is for Orange and One2one only........

Vodafone and Cellnet have both bought some spectrum on the 1800 band, only Cellnet currently uses it to ease network congestion in some areas!
